PROJET DE LOI S-213
Un sénateur a présenté un Bill privé pour amender le Code criminel canadien. Il représente des chasseurs qui ne veulent pas être importunés par la notion de cruauté envers les animaux. Alors en présentant son projet de loi avant les autres, s'il passe, nous ne pourrons plus en avoir un vrai qui amenderait le Code criminel canadien en faveur des animaux.

Pétition
Nous avions obtenu du Salon des animaux de compagnie (les 25-26 novembre au Stade Olympique) de pouvoir faire signer cette pétition dans l'aire de la restauration. Il était trop tard pour avoir une table. Malheureusement, il y a dû y avoir de la pression de l'industrie car le responsable du Salon vient de nous dire que ce ne sera pas possible vu que la pétition ne dit rien, elle parle seulement du Bill C-50 que tout le monde connaît de toutes façons.
La pétition est pour le retrait du Bill S-213 et l'introduction immédiate d'un projet de loi semblable au C-50, lequel est mort au feuilleton avec les élections l'an passé. Il semble qu'un député serait prêt à le représenter. Il suffit de l'appuyer.
Si vous prévoyiez aller au Salon, nous vous demandons de le boycotter. En effet, déjà que c'est une immense vitrine pour l'industrie animale des $$$ qui n'a rien à voir avec la protection des animaux, le fait de refuser une pétition aussi simple que la nôtre en dit long sur le fait que l'industrie n'en veut pas de ce projet de loi.
We were supposed to go to the Salon des Animaux de Compagnie at the end of November to ask people to sign the petition in favour of the amendments to the Criminal Code to better protect the animals.
At the last minute we were refused because it seems our petition is not explicite enough. We presume the industry that is going to be there does not want us to interfere with their $$$$ and ask the owner of the Salon to refuse such petition.
May we ask that all of you who were supposed to go to the Stade Olympique boycott such an event and ask your friends and family to do the same ?

Pour ceux et celles qui désirent faire une action supplémentaire, voici le texte de la pétition en français et en anglais. Il est en format Word. Imprimez-le et faites signer. Sans faute à la fin de novembre il faut retourner les feuilles de signatures à l'adresse indiquée. Assurez-vous que ce soit fait et assurez-vous aussi que le texte de la pétition n'est pas changé.

* DAISY DUKE refers to the recent incident of Daisy Duke, the lab-border collie cross tortured in Didsbury, Alberta. It was a sad reminder to many Canadians that our current laws are archaic and need to be modernized. The public outcry from Western Canada and across the country are proof that this is an issue near and dear to many voters.

We absolutely need a few donations to winter all those animals at Teja's Animal Refuge.
Make more of your donation than just giving money, make a statement of your support for the wonderful work, Nicole Joncas is doing with the relocating all those dogs coming from everywhere: abandoned, lost and found, dumped on the back roads or simply put in the garbage because not needed anymore (not counting the cats, the ducks, etc.)

DEUXIÈME URGENCE
Une grande amie des animaux est en difficulté. Elle relève d'un cancer du sein et est seule avec sa fille de 10 ans pour déménager le 18 novembre.
Elle aurait besoin d'aide pour l'emballage et le transport de ses animaux le 18.
Elle est sur la rive-sud de Montréal.

TROISIÈME URGENCE
We absolutely need volunteers to transport animals, mostly dogs, to rescue groups in the Ottawa Valley or towards Kingston for a rely to Toronto. All that transportation is done in order to save the dogs' lives and have them adopted in a loving home. Nicole has been doing it alone for years but it is taking a toll on her health.
Such trips occur almost every 2 weeks but think how many dogs Nicole saved all by herself. It is time we pitch in and give her a break.
Les bénévoles doivent fournir leur véhicule. Par exemple, deux huskies sont à St-Jérôme et seront bientôt sur la liste d'adoption. Nous aurons alors besoin de transport.

CHATONS À DONNER/FREE TO A GOOD HOME
C'est incroyable la quantité de gens qui ne font pas opérer leur animal et le laissent traîner. Çà fait des petits çà. Et qu'est-ce qu'on fait des bébés ? On les annonce sur Internet :

Mais le problème c'est que les revendeurs psychopathes aussi visitent internet et ramassent les animaux gratis pour les revendre dans les usines à chiots ou les laboratoires d'expérimentation. Je vous ai dis, l'autre jour que les chats que l'on entend miauler à l'Hôpital Ste-Justine la nuit ne sont pas là pour de la zoothérapie….
L'éducation est très difficile à faire. S'il le faut, allez-y un à la fois. Ecrivez à chaque personne qui offre ses animaux pour lui expliquer les réalités de la vie ou même mieux, postez vous-même une annonce sur ces sites.
Les psychopathes vont vous la faire retirer par le propriétaire du site mais si elle est là quelques jours, elle peut être lue. On va en faire jusqu'à ce que les revendeurs (brokers) sachent qu'on les a à l'oeil.
Don't force pets to endure costumes

Sunday, November 14, 2004 - I was browsing the Internet the other day and I came across the week's most e-mailed photos. Much to my surprise and dismay, there was a photo of a small dog wearing a fur coat.
Considering the photo was taken right after Halloween, I pondered the concept of dressing animals in costumes for Halloween. I had thought about this bizarre idea several weeks earlier, while shopping at a retail store. It seems there is quite a market in exploiting the psychological inequities of some pet owners. Why is it that society feels the need to dress their pets in costumes? Do the animals themselves enjoy the discomfort of wearing such a mockery for a cheap laugh? I think not. Is it not a bit twisted to put the fur of dead animal on another animal for the sake of dressing it in a costume? Or how about dressing the animal as a clown? It definitely makes for a bad joke, yet why should the animal be the brunt of the joke?
What happened to the concept of loving an animal without the cheap circus laughter?
I guess it is a reflection of the owner's lack of sensitivity and respect to all creatures, which would especially include their own pet. Another bad idea, yet quite a profitable one.
Next Halloween we should let children and adults be festive and dress in costume. Let us leave the animals out of the commercial and exploitative pet costume industry.

Dopey Deers
A news item that was not in the newspapers but on the radio this morning :
It seems that the deers in the Quebec Eastern Townships thrive on marijuana plants growing in the forests in the summer and fall and become quite friendly and easier to kill.
But come winter, when they experience withdrawal from the drug, they become aggressive.
The question now is : what about the meat from those deers that hunters kill? Will the hunters who eat the meat become addicted ?
